If nothing else, I can rest assure...Hi Sweetheart,

If nothing else, I can rest assured your Mom and I have given you an interesting life. Not always great, or even always happy, but certainly full of diversity and even surprise. Guess that's not a bad thing because look how you turned out! You make me so proud FOR you. Not for anything we have done but for what you have done for yourself.

I so remember you fingers on the stone wall at Big Trees. You were eight years old and told us you heard a little girl laughing and felt the energy from the stone as we got in the car to leave . You, your Mom and I all know it was Tutu saying she was with you on your journey. It doesn't matter what others believe. I am not a mystical person but I do know there are things we just don't need to try to explain. They just are. Grandpa Carl, Granny and Mom - keep it up. You have the girl on a roll!

As if you haven't guessed, love, DadAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967179224372520114.post-83437643125684725652010-11-16T09:25:23.947-06:002010-11-16T09:25:23.947-06:00As your mom and as a writer, I got teary over this...As your mom and as a writer, I got teary over this interview and over the responses. Hopefully The Oak Lovers will inspire many more people to become curious about the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century. I knew very little about it before I started researching. I can honestly say I have never been anywhere that held as much creative energy as the Roycroft Campus. If I could set up an office in the Morris Room of the Inn, I'd likely finish this book within a couple of weeks. I'd never sleep.

Thank you again for being such a wonderful supporter of this book. I'm sure you'll like the next one, too, as it will also be about a Roycrofter.

KimKim Bullockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06100854132576647442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967179224372520114.post-31911403497399749582010-11-16T08:01:53.753-06:002010-11-16T08:01:53.753-06:00This interview gave us such an intimate portrait o...This interview gave us such an intimate portrait of you as a person and as an author. This interview was very insightful and has definitely increased my anticipation for this novel to be completed. I hope that publishers/ agents are discerning enough to see how unique this book is and I also hope that they are shrewd enough to determine the best way to market it to the public. I have never heard of a book quite like this even though it has many universal themes.

Keep going Kim! As comfortable as I am with Mom, Wendy and you, it was a group situation and I tend to just sit back and observe unless I'm asked something directly. The other time we met I had Sasha with me, which was a whole other kind of distraction.

I'm sure that being an only child, on top of the isolation, did have a great influence on how I am in group situations. I never had to compete to be heard as a kid, after all. I do perfectly fine when the focus is on me, such as at the Carl Ahrens Day event, and I have no problem addressing crowds either.

KimKim Bullockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06100854132576647442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967179224372520114.post-91979744857113548982010-11-15T12:16:43.106-06:002010-11-15T12:16:43.106-06:00Kim and Joan,
What an insightful and revealing in...Kim and Joan,

What an insightful and revealing interview. Well done! Joan led you into it with some great key questions.

I have taken time to click onto the inserted references and re-read them again as well. They have given even further depth and insight to the interview.

By the way, I love Carl's painting of the tepees lighted from within!

After reading about your ever-changing circumstances during your childhood, I can understand more fully why you write with such maturity. What a gift to be learn to adaptable to new situations and a variety of people so early in life. One would expect those experiences alone might have freed you to be socially more comfortable. I wonder how much your being an only child has influenced you? It certainly seems to have contributed to your intropective and analytical skills.

I remember being suprised when I met you at how young you appeared. Also, how reserved you were in conversation. Such a contrast to your openness and verbality in writing. I can certainly understand the contrast better now and sympathize with your aloneness as a child, although your mother seemed to fill your life well, under the circumstances. To be able to read so early was a real gift! But as you say, "a curse" to you socially. On top of this, the life of a writer tends to be a solitary one, which does not help.

I wondered if this interview was done verbally and recorded, or as a written response to the questions? The answers are so full and comprehensive.

It provided a good morning of reading and contemplation for me. Will one of those books you have in you be about you?

PaulaPaula Niallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08253737356799042987noreply@blogger.com
